Introduction - Objectives

The Objectives of this course are to:

1. Appreciate the definitions of important terms related to a terrorist incident to assist in interagency communications.
2. Understand the risks and threats of terrorism and the potential targets of a community.
3. Understand the planning initiatives which may be necessary for a community response including a community risk assessment.
4. Understand the important issues inherent to a terrorist incident response involving weapons of mass destruction.
5. Be aware of the various types of personal protective equipment including their particular advantages and disadvantages.
6. Develop an awareness of issues involving active surveillance.
7. Understand the medical response for both the prehospital and hospital components of an actual incident.
8. Serve as a basic primer of the federal assets available to rural EMS medical directors during a terrorist event.
