Introduction - Objectives
The Objectives of this course are to:
- Appreciate the definitions of important terms related to a terrorist incident to assist in interagency communications.
- Understand the risks and threats of terrorism and the potential targets of a community.
- Understand the planning initiatives which may be necessary for a community response including a community risk assessment.
- Understand the important issues inherent to a terrorist incident response involving weapons of mass destruction.
- Be aware of the various types of personal protective equipment including their particular advantages and disadvantages.
- Develop an awareness of issues involving active surveillance.
- Understand the medical response for both the prehospital and hospital components of an actual incident.
- Serve as a basic primer of the federal assets available to rural EMS medical directors during a terrorist event.
