Response Preparation - Patient Movement
Patient movement and transportation capability requires an organized and preplanning of the movement and accountability of both ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients to healthcare sites. Traditional ambulances may be overwhelmed by the number of injured or ill as well as limited personnel at the initial time of the event. Mass transportation utilizing commercial and/or school buses, trains, boats and other vehicular modalities may be necessary depending upon the circumstances of the event. Incorporating the businesses and school systems in planning will assist in the necessary permissive policies required to acquire access and usage of these vehicles for nontraditional purposes.
