Scene Mitigation - Gross Decontamination

Gross decontamination can then be accomplished with large volumes of water as seen with showering the patient(s) in an uphill upwind location from the care areas. Contingency planning should involve methods for decontamination if equipment or apparatus is not available due to other commitments at the scene.

While sodium hypochlorite (household bleach) was previously advocated as a decontaminant now experience has shown that a mild soap and water is adequate and not as harmful to skin and tissues.
